Co-Founder and Chairman
Mr. Meyer has over forty-five years of domestic and international entrepreneurial leadership experience developing, owning, and operating businesses across multiple sectors, including multi-unit consumer, franchising, finance, commercial real estate, and ranching.
Mr. Meyer is the Co-Founder and Chairman of JLM Financial Partners, a private investment firm based in Austin, Texas, with investments spanning across the U.S. and Asia in growth-oriented brands focused on health, wellness, entertainment, and recreation. He is and has been involved in all the aspects of JLM’s investment strategy, investment oversight, decisions, and investor relations since the company’s inception in 2015. Meyer currently either serves as Chairman or Board Member for numerous portfolio companies:
- The Recreational Group, a sports flooring enterprise
- Sports Entertainment Asia, Ltd, which owns the rights to develop the Topgolf brand across Greater China
- JLM Development Company, a real estate development entity
- Good For You Ventures, a start-up in the “better for you” beverage space
- ExoGrade, a bio tech start-up firm focusing on innovations in the field of stem cells
Mr. Meyer is the Founder and Managing Partner of JLM Financial Investments, an asset-based investment platform founded in 1992 with a focus on acquisitions of secured loans and fee simple real estate. JLM was very active in this space in 1992-94 and 2008-2011. He has real estate development experience with rotatable projects, including the Plaza at Turtle Creek and 2525 McKinnon in Dallas, Texas.
Mr. Meyer has held numerous other management and leadership positions, including being a franchisee of Leadership Management International, owner of T-Shirts Plus (a national franchisor of retail stores), and most recently, as co-founder and Chairman of United PF Partners (the largest Planet Fitness franchisee) until JLM Financial Partners exit of this portfolio company with 168 units in 2019 that was the largest franchisee transaction in US history.
Mr. Meyer has held numerous roles in civic and community organizations, including 25 years on the Board of the Boys & Girls Club, which he currently serves on the Foundation Board.
Mr. Meyer has been married for thirty-eight years to his wife, Lynn. They have three children and two grandchildren.
Co-Founder and Partner
Mr. Owen is the co-founder of JLM Financial Partners with Mr. Meyer. He is involved in investor relations, driving operational excellence in the firm’s investments as well as providing strategic oversight and direction to JLM’s portfolio companies. He currently serves as President, CEO and board member of United PF Partners, a former portfolio company co-founded by JLM. Mr. Owen also serves as a board member of Sports Entertainment Asia Limited (SEAL) and was the inaugural President of the Planet Fitness Independent Franchise Council (PFIFC).
Mr. Owen’s entrepreneurial career is built on a foundation of instilling vision, purpose, structure, transparency, accountability and resiliency into a company’s culture and operations. Prior to co-founding JLM, he started a Planet Fitness franchisee group in 2010 that grew to 25+ clubs before merging with four additional franchisees to form United PF Partners in 2016. Before Planet Fitness, Mr. Owen founded, grew and sold a multi-unit computer training business operating in secondary markets throughout Texas.
Mr. Owen is married to Shannon Owen and they have two young daughters. The Owen family philanthropic and voluntary interests include the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, the West Point collegiate golf program, Daughters of the American Revolution, Wonders and Worries and The Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Mr. Owen is a graduate of The United States Military Academy at West Point.
Managing Director and Partner
Mr. Ezell joined the team as a Partner and Managing Director in the Fall of 2015. He is actively involved in all of JLM’s investment decisions, capital raising activities, business development and asset management. He currently serves on the board of United PF Partners and The Recreational Group.
Mr. Ezell’s work experience is rooted by two primary facets; transactional and entrepreneurial. He founded Blue River Advisors in 2012, which is a real estate investment company focused on value add acquisitions. He has served in numerous leadership roles within JLM Financial Investments since he joined the company in 2009. Prior to joining JLM he held sales and marketing roles with a Fortune 500 company.
Mr. Ezell is married to his wife Brooke and they have two young boys.
Mr. Ezell has a Bachelor of Science from Texas Tech University and a Master of Business Administration of the University of Texas.
Mr. Votaw joined JLM Financial Investments in 2010 and currently serves as a partner and financial analyst for JLM Financial Partners as well. He is responsible for evaluating new opportunities, financial analysis, market research, due diligence, coordinating with legal, interfacing with lenders and financial partners and overseeing multiple aspects of M&A activities.
Mr. Votaw serves as a board observer for United PF Partners, Brighter Beauty, Sports Entertainment Asia Limited (SEAL), The Recreational Group and ExoGrades.
His thirteen years of experience also includes commercial real estate underwriting, asset management, sales, assessing multi-unit transactions, coordinating closing procedures and overall financial analytics. In addition to Mr. Votaw’s daily involvement with the entire JLM portfolio, he plays a lead role within The Recreational Group portfolio company on behalf of JLM.
Mr. Votaw is married to his wife Jessica and they have two young daughters.
Mr. Votaw holds a B.A. in Business Administration from Concordia University.
Mr. Meyer has more than six years of entrepreneurial, investment, and management experience across multiple sectors, including multi-unit consumer and commercial real estate.
He joined JLM Financial Partners in 2015 at its inception and is responsible for assessing new opportunities; coordinating M&A transactions; interfacing with investors, legal, and financial partners; and providing ongoing investment and strategic oversight to all JLM’s various portfolio companies across the United States and Asia. Mr. Meyer currently serves on multiple committees and is a board observer for the company’s numerous portfolio companies including the Recreational Group, Sports Entertainment Asia, Ltd, Good For You Ventures, ExoGrades, and the JLM Development Company.
Mr. Meyer previously served as a board observer and Real Estate Committee member for United PF Partners, the largest Planet Fitness franchisee, until JLM Financial Partners’ exit of this portfolio company with 168 units in 2019. Before joining JLM Financial Partners, he served as an analyst for JLM Financial Investments.
Mr. Meyer graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Baylor University and a Master of Business Administration from the Jack Welch Management Institute. He is also an active Texas real estate agent and holds his license with Ranches and Rivers Realty.
Mr. Tolany co-founded Good For You Ventures (GFY) in 2018 and serves as an Operating Partner within the JLM portfolio. In conjunction with individual company leadership, Mr. Tolany is responsible for the operations, growth, and success of multiple JLM properties.
Mr. Tolany’s prior work experience includes marketing leadership at Whole Foods Market, operational leadership at Amazon, and the CEO role of a venture-backed ecommerce company. He is a startup mentor at Techstars and a public speaker at events such as South By Southwest, Wisdom 2.0, and Rebuild21.
Mr. Tolany has a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Texas.
Tucson Dunn, CEO of ExoGrades worked with JLM to establish the company in August 2018. Prior to joining ExoGrades, Tucson worked as Managing Director of Fosun Healthcare Holdings in Shanghai, China, where he led international private equity investments and served as Director of Luz Saud Hospital Group in Portugal. Tucson spent the past 25 years managing and developing healthcare companies in USA, Asia, Europe and Middle East. He studied Management Science at Lesley University in Cambridge, MA and Evidence-based Healthcare University of Oxford in Oxford UK.
